Remember when you were a kid and you’d constantly find coins on the ground? I mean, that was before you had texts to answer, small humans to corral, and your eyeballs were much closer to the ground.

What you look for, you find.

Let’s get it out of the way… all the reasons you won’t find money. Let the negative thoughts creep in so we can consciously throw them out.

  1. No one uses cash anymore, so they don’t drop change.
  2. I’m too careful with my money, so there would never be any lying around.
  3. Money is kind of grimy, so I don’t want to touch it.
  4. It’s such a small amount, it’s not even worth it.
  5. I’m not that lucky.
Okay, did you get that out of your system? Did you come up with any more? Feel free to comment, but don’t forget to reframe it for us.

  1. Lots of people use cash. Especially for tipping. My kids constantly find coins in parking lots where a restaurant offers takeout. People are balancing their meal and the handful of change they’re trying to stuff in their pocket. If they’re hungry, they probably won’t bother to look around for a dropped quarter.
  2. You might have carefully put money aside in a special drawer and then forgot about it. You know… that super safe space that you forgot about.
  3. That’s why we carry hand sanitizer. My mom tries to tell me not to pick up money because it could have fentanyl residue. I’ll take my chances that the people aren’t doping up before shopping at Safeway.
  4. The more you find and appreciate, the more you’ll find and appreciate. It might be a penny today, but it could be a $20 coin tumbling in the breeze tomorrow. I found $15 in a Target once. Not a soul around to ask. I even waited 5 minutes or so to see if anyone came back.
  5. The universe/God rewards effort. If you don’t believe it can happen, it won’t. But how about saying to yourself, “I’m so excited to find a dollar soon!” until you do.
Maybe you’re not going to get rich off of found money. But you’ll get slightly richer. Follow that with the same enthusiastic gratitude you had as a kid and things will start to get a little bit more abundant.

What’s the most money you’ve found while out and about?
